As a huge fan of True Detective I can tell you that it’s
clear the only way to continue the series is with a new duo of talented actors
to take the place of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Rumours came out
last month that Taylor Kitsch and Colin Farrell are being considered for these
roles and I can totally see that working. As a fan of both of these underrated
actors I think them successfully continuing the story. Perhaps this time with
younger rookie type detectives which would be a good change and contrast from
McConaughey and Harrelson.
However news has reached me that Vince Vaughn is being
considered for a role in True Detective, this is an idea that I absolutely
despise.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind Vaughn in small doses. He’s
one of those actors who’s easy on the brain when put in some kind of silly
comedy film, perhaps acting opposite someone more talented than him. I don’t
mind him, I even thought he was alright in the second and far inferior sequel
to Jurassic Park. My view however is if the writers intent to carry the same
dark and calculated tone over from season one there is no way that Vaughn could
be deliver that anywhere near as successfully as the two actors before him.
I hope I am wrong I really do, if it becomes official obviously
I’ll have to deal with it and yes I will still watch the series and this could
be some kind of comeback for Vaughn. But to be honest I feel like I’ve seen
everything that Vaughn is capable of and just I can’t stand the idea of
Vaughn’s name being in the absolutely incredible True Detective intro.
