Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Trailer #1

Although I enjoyed Captain America: The First Avenger it is safe me to say that it is probably my least favourite of the solo Avengers films. The film felt rushed in some places and quite poorly slung together. Having said that, the first trailer to the sequel is here so let’s chat about it friends.

The trailer opens with Cap and Black Widow on a mission and you immediately get the feeling that their relationship has evolved since the events of The Avengers. After this Cap tells Robert Redford how he is unsure of his position within S.H.I.E.L.D, showing how the film will be most likely be about Cap discovering himself, a theme only touched upon in The Avengers.

We then see Samuel L. Jackson (so pleased he is back) and Anthony Mackie as The Falcon. Clearly a new threat is coming for S.H.I.E.L.D and it’s in the form of (drum roll) The Winter Soldier. I won’t spoil his identity for anyone unfamiliar with the comics because they keep his appearance quite brief here as to not give away too much. I am very pleased with how him and his uniform look. Faithful to the comics as well as somewhat new.

I can’t say I’m a fan of Cap’s new costume however. I was someone who enjoyed his costume in both the original film and The Avengers so I was hoping it wasn’t going to change too much. The black almost goes against his entire theme of looking like a walking American flag. The scale of the film looks like it will far exceed the scale of the original, with the Helicarrier returning and plenty of sci-fi looking shots. I even wonder if this film will make reference to Guardians of the Galaxy perhaps. My favourite clip so far is the small part where Cap wastes a lift full of guys with his shield. The film may have shown too much is regard to the Helicarrier's fate. I'm really hoping that isn't the climax of the film and we don't get a total spoiler like we did for Star Trek Into Darkness' initial trailer.

However that small gripe doesn’t take away from how good this film looks. I’m only hoping this film’s timeline is overlapping with Iron Man 3’s timeline as I would like some sort of explanation as to where Nick
Fury was while Guy Pearce was kidnapping the president.
