Marvel has released a new Iron Man 3 clip online. The clip
is the full scene regarding something we had seen briefly in the previous
trailers for the film, and shows Tony challenging Ben Kingsley's The Mandarin
to a crowd of press. In my opinion the third Iron Man 3 trailer gave away too
much, so I was happy when this clip didn't spoil anything I'd much rather just
see in the film.
In good ol' Tony Stark spirit, this clip demonstrates that
Tony isn't afraid to speak as directly as he can to his enemies. If you
remember in The Avengers, Tony had no problem talking face to face with Loki,
in that scene he says something very similar to what he says here. Tony also
talks about "good old fashioned revenge". What is it that Tony wants
revenge for? Pepper? That seems the logical explanation.
Tony refers to The Mandarin as a coward and the fact that
Tony isn't even speaking directly to him confirms to us all that The Mandarin
will be a villain less interested in getting his hands dirty, perhaps
preferring to have his followers carry everything out. Jon Favreau has, in the
past, compared The Mandarin to Star Wars' Emperor Palpatine. This kind of
villain isn't one we have seen in an Iron Man film before, and it's going to be
interesting to see how it's approached.
